Republican politicians who take money from big oil companies have grown fond of spinning tall tales of how the Chinese are drilling oil off the coast of Cuba, and how any attempt by the U.S. government to regulate dangerous and dirty offshore drilling is tantamount to Communism. What these Republicans don’t say is that American corporations are drilling for oil along the coast of China, in partnership with Communist programs developed by the government of China.
Among these American oil companies who are engaged in Communist offshore oil drilling in Chinese waters is ConocoPhillips. Last year, ConocoPhillips paid lobbyists almost 20 million dollars to influence the government of the U.S.A. This year, ConocoPhillips has already spent more than 10.5 million dollars on such efforts, mostly on its own internal lobbyists who are beholden to no other client but ConocoPhillips.
This week, one of the Communist partnerships for offshore drilling run by ConocoPhillips along the coast of China ran into a bit of a problem: Offshore drilling rigs in Bohai Bay began spilling huge amounts of oil into the water. Local fishermen say that the marine life they depend upon is turning up dead, and ConocoPhillips is accused of a coverup in an attempt to conceal the extent of the spill to the people living along the shore.
Update: That’s My Congress indicates that, although ConocoPhillips is willing to prop up Communism in China, it isn’t at all attached to the principle of “each according to his need” here in the United States. The median pay for a worker at ConocoPhillips is less than two-tenths of one percent the amount of money that CEO James Mulva is given.
Continuation by humanity to despoil its own environment is tantamount to eco-cide and will result in our demise. Why we continue doing all this polluting when it’s killing us is beyond comprehension. The rule of law no longer exists and we’re devolving into survival mode where it’s “everyone for themselves” – absolutely no way it will work. Without jobs there is not enough tax money to support the system so the people in charge start cutting costs that make life worth living and provide support for all of us when they should be cutting out the military overextension we’ve done in the past few decades. Their poor planning will result in social disruption and a collapse in our standard of living (bad enough as it is with the gross misdistribution of wealth).
Keep it up humanity – until we collapse completely. Great plan.
