This morning, one of our most steadfast readers commented that, yes, he would gladly join the occupation movement as soon as it came to the city nearest him, Philadephia, Pennsylvania. “When they come around to Philly, i’ll make the trip in and do my part!”
Good news: There is already an Occupy Philadelphia organization in place. They’re holding a meeting at the Arch Street United Methodist Church from 6:30 to 9:30 tonight.
That’s not the only occupation protest action in Pennsylvania. Over in Harrisburg, they’re holding a General Assembly meeting tomorrow evening from 7:00 to 10:00 at the Metropolitan Community Church, 2973 Jefferson Street.
Occupy Allentown took to the streets at the corner of 7th & Hamilton yesterday at high noon, and will reassemble there again 15 minutes from now, for a protest until 5:30 PM, when the group will go over to Bethlehem for a shared General Assembly meeting.
There will be another General Assembly meeting at about the same time held by Occupy Pittsburgh at the First Unitarian Church, 605 Morewood Avenue.
Occupy Scranton isn’t listed on the Occupy Together web site, but the group exists nonetheless. Another new organization is Occupy Wilkes-Barre, which is holding a protest at Wilkes-Barre Public Square, where Market Street and Main Street meet, from 4:30pm – 11:30pm tomorrow.
Occupy Pennsylvania – we are the 99 percent!

WOO-HOO! The organizational meeting is tonight so i imagine in the days to come we’ll be out on the street voicing our “concerns.” This is what i’ve been waiting for – a boatload of people who have had ENOUGH of all the corruption, disfunctional government, unresponsive political parties, co-opted media, and meaningless elections BESIDES all the financial shenanigans that we were FORCED to pay for and now leave us broke while corporate world sits on trillions (and aren’t hiring and aren’t paying living wages) and the continuing pollution of our biosphere.
It’s about freakin’ time!
Tom, it is SO, SO nice to get a woo-hoo out of you.
J. Clifford – thanks for putting up with me (doom and gloom and all) for the past bunch of years i’ve been visiting your site. You guys got me interested in “other” ways of looking at things, reading alternative news sources to find the unvarnished truth (or at least the other side of the story), and have taken me to task (and often rightfully so) for being overly pessimistic, unwilling to concede long held beliefs (that turned out to be wrong) and kept up the conversation long enough for me to develop my writing skills, polish up my talking points and see a bit clearer that sometimes (most times) reality isn’t “easy”, “neat”, or the domain of any one person.
Thanks guys.
i’m really excited that this movement is awakening all the pent-up frustration of the citizenry throughout the country and that THIS is the answer i’ve been seeking when asking “what can we do about it?” What we are to “do” is get off our collective asses and just SHOW UP. The rest we’ll figure out as we go along.
They can’t arrest us all, they can’t shoot us all, they can’t declare Marshall Law because there aren’t enough military and police combined if everyone shows up – AND (ala the French Revolution) the police are our neighbors, brothers, sons and daughters – they’re on our side when it all comes down to it!

“Almost 1000″ people at the PLANNING ASSEMBLY, not even the actual occupation, in Philadelphia! And Hugh Giordano, who they interview, is a good friend of mine and a union rep and was a powerful 2010 Green state rep candidate (23% in the city of Philadelphia in a three way race), and he’s now working with Occupy Philly, too. This is BIG!
