It’s become fashionable on the Left to distinguish the entire field of Republican presidential candidates as a bunch of crazies, indistinguishable in their insanity. A more realistic assessment is that, while all of the GOP candidates have their flaws, they aren’t all equally nuts.
Consider the issue of torture. During a Republican presidential debate on Saturday, Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Herman Cain both proposed that the government of the United States go back to the use of torture techniques that were used under George W. Bush.
Support for torture was not unanimous, however. Two other Republican presidential candidates in the debate, Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman, declared their opposition to the expansion of torture by the USA. Of course, both Paul and Huntsman are polling in the single digits, when placed in competition with the other Republican candidates. It seems that most Republican voters don’t find much appeal in the idea of restraining American torture programs. Although there is diversity within the Republican Party, the furious sadists retain majority control.

Meanwhile, all the Democratic candidates are equally crazy on torture.
Oh, I meant to write “candidate”, singular. Yep, still no choice in the primaries for Democrats this year.
I’ve been trying to believe Romney could at least maintain the status quo, but I saw recent clips where he was guaranteeing the outcome of Iranian nuclear arms development based on who is the next president (assured under Obama, impossible under McRomney with no mention of what he would do). It’s the Republican’s election to lose, and they are quite determined to lose it. yay
Who knew that one country can determine the technological development of another country through its own political elections? I’d like to hear the engineering theory behind that idea!
