Levels of the three most potent greenhouse gases are now at higher levels than at any other time in recorded human history, according to a report from the World Meteorological Organization released this morning.
Carbon Dioxide is now at 389 parts per million in the global atmosphere. Methane is at 1808 parts per billion. Nitrous oxide is 323.2 parts per billion. Measurements were taken by the Global Atmosphere Watch from locations around the world.
The WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin advises that human activities are associated with the dramatic greenhouse gas increase, stating, “The three primary greenhouse gases are not only closely linked to anthropogenic activities, but they also have strong interactions with the biosphere and the oceans.”
In a statement accompanying the release of the bulletin, WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud warned, “Even if we managed to halt our greenhouse gas emissions today – and this is far from the case – they would continue to linger in the atmosphere for decades to come and so continue to affect the delicate balance of our living planet and our climate.”

EPA Delays Greenhouse Gas Rules For Oil Refineries | One month after delaying rules for regulating greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, the Environmental Protection Agency has delayed another set of rules for GHG emissions from oil refineries.
The delay also comes as new data show a record jump in global greenhouse gas emissions in 2010 — a disturbing record achieved in spite of a feeble global economy. Reuters reports on the announcement:
“EPA expects to need more time to complete work on greenhouse gas pollution standards for oil refineries,” a spokeswoman for the agency said. The EPA is working with the litigants to develop a new schedule to replace the current mid-December date for a rule proposal, she added.
Earlier this fall, the EPA abandoned a rule for regulating smog — a move that was met with almost unanimous disapproval from the public health community.”

Here’s an amusing bit of propaganda. Life-long Democrat Concerned — Party is Too Aggressive in its policies to encourage green energy use! He’s sooo disillusioned by how progressive the party has become since the days of FDR and Nixon (Republican creator of the EPA). And so cute at the end when he suggests his dream of a fossil fueled future may be too “pie in the sky” for some to consider when it is the very path to destruction we are on.
