Occupy Arrest Map shows a Widespread Movement

According to the latest tabulation by occupyarrests.com, there have been 5,309 documented arrests with solid sources across 93 cities in the United States of America. The Occupy movement of course exists outside the borders of the United States of America and there may be more arrests that have gone unreported or unconfirmed. But the sheer number of these arrests, representing the starkest tip of participation, indicates the presence of a fairly large social movement in the USA.

The location of these arrests indicates that the Occupation movement is not limited to a few places, but is rather geographically widespread. In the map you see below, based on Occupy Arrests data, a circle exists around a city if people have been arrested there while protesting at an Occupation; the size of the circle is proportional to the number who’ve been arrested. Data is current as of December 11 2011.

      Reader,

Thanks for letting me know about this; it showed up for ME because I was signed in. Darned interactive map…

… it’s now replaced with a regular graphic. No flashy effects, but it works.
