Everyone’s heard by now that the results of the Republican Iowa Caucuses on January 3 2011 were tight, with Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in tight contention for the approving attention of the greatest Iowa voters. It’s not one caucus in Iowa, but rather many caucuses, and in each Iowa county there’s a clear winner.
Four Republican presidential candidates — Paul, Romney, Santorum and Rick Perry — won at least one county in Iowa. Check the map below to see who won where.

While fraying cellophane won over the populated areas, most of rural Iowa has opened its arms to creamy brown froth.

On course for an easy Obama victory. I really hope he continues the awesomeness after the campaign is over. It was such a great contrast seeing the president appointing consumer protectors (and as I’ve only heard mentioned here, civil liberties overseers who may lift a hand long enough to wave a few more liberties goodbye) while the Homeland Republicans nearly select the complete fascist froth over the courtly robber baron.
Obama still sucks. If he was going to resort to a recess appointment for the consumer advocate, he could just as easily have selected Elizabeth Warren.
It’s not much of a welcome contrast that he’s vastly expanding offshore drilling (post-Deepwater Horizon) and new power plants (post-Fukushima). Nor signing into law more capitulations on civil liberties.
I agree. The awesomeness is only relative to Obama’s own recent history and the likely alternatives. He will need a progressive congress to have a good chance at following through on better policies.
Hey Jim, do you mind if I borrow this image for my blog, santorumforgop.tumblr.com, which encourages liberals, progressives and moderates who are sick of GOP extremism to contaminate the Republican primaries with votes for the least electable candidate? Please let me know. Thanks.
Be my guest.
