Republicanism Exemplified

“I like being able to fire people who provide services to me.” — Mitt Romney, Republican presidential candidate

“We’re disappointed.” — Thomas Donohue, U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Donohue’s not disappointed that Mitt Romney is all about firing people when the economy is low. He’s disappointed that people are giving poor Mitt Romney a hard time. That’s Republicanism in a nutshell.

  1. republicanism exemplified If venture capitalism is the poster boy for republicanism then we must realise that there is socialy responsible vc and that which may be greedy and somewht irresponsible. Do we have a duty to promote the greater good or selfishly go for the quck profit. We seem to see with Bain that Unions are automaticaly bad and the labor force is just a cost center rather than a true partner in a corporation..

  2. Tom says:

What we need are corporations in which the workers have a vested interest and are an equal part of the agenda with the customer and management (who are also workers). Still, they shouldn’t have the same “speech” rights as people, which point would be moot if there were publicly funded elections.
