Did You Feel Your Mitochondria In September?

November 16th, 2012 | Posted by F. G. Fitzer in Legislation

Yesterday, Senator Mary Landrieu resolution that conferred official U.S. Senate sanction of Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week, or as Senator Landrieu named it in the title of her speech, “National Mitochondrial Awareness Week”.

The resolution awarded no money or organizational support for efforts to research or treat mitochondrial diseases. It only presented an official statement, which was then completely ignored by every single journalist in the United States, of Senate endorsement of the Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week.

The mDNA on the cake was the timing of Mary Landrieu’s resolution. She presented it several weeks too late. Her resolution, passed yesterday, November 15, 2012 designated the week of September 16, 2012 as a time for all Americans to be aware of their mitochondria.

Way to demonstrate legislative relevance there, Senator.

Well, next Thursday is National Take A Mitochondrion To Lunch Day. But what would you feed it? I’m thinking a lovely bowl of pyruvate (and a nice chianti).

Yes, the insanity continues, with our government “leaders” declaring special days for “awareness” of minutia while consciously avoiding any discussion of and blithely continuing on the fossil fuel based train to extinction! Woo-hoo!
