November 25th, 2012 | Posted by F. G. Fitzer in Irregular Ideas

An article by Alan Korwin, the owner of GunLaws.com, and author of After You Shoot: Your Gun’s Hot. The Perp’s Not. Now What? is currently making the rounds among groups of Americans who are afraid that their gun hoards are soon going to be confiscated by the recently re-elected Barack Obama. Is this for real? Is President Obama preparing with Democrats in Congress to rapidly ban a huge range of guns, now that he has been re-elected?

Alan Korwin gun ban list conspiracy theoryDon’t bet on it. Though gun nut web sites like as AmericanNationalMilita.com have published Korwin’s article within just the last few days, there are a few items in the article itself that expose it as a hoax to any politically-educated reader. First, the article asserts that “the Democrats have the votes to pass anything they want to impose upon us,” though in truth, the U.S. House of Representatives is now controlled by the Republican Party, and will continue to be in January 2013. Second, the article describes Eric Holder as Barack Obama’s “pick” for Attorney General of the United States, though Holder was confirmed as Attorney General years ago. Third, the article cites a CNN broadcast by Lou Dobbs as “proof” that the list of soon-to-be-banned guns is genuine. Lou Dobbs was forced off the air long ago for using his spot on CNN to promote absurd conspiracy theories without any evidence to back them up. The CNN video is from January, 2009.

It looks like the article by Alan Korwin, though it’s being promoted as fresh news, is actually just a clumsy rehash of propaganda concocted just after Barack Obama was elected President the first time. Korwin’s conspiracy theory was a hoax then, and it’s a hoax now.

It’s more than just a hoax…it’s an ad campaign. Arms and ammo manufacturers and retailers and the NRA all make huge money every time a wave of paranoia washes over the gun-nut community. They’ll never say so, but having a black guy in the White House is their dream come true.
