 It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time of barricaded roads and new paths. Maps fade and direction is lost as we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we pass, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Gone are the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Here’s a video version of the anti-McCain song I posted earlier today, fleshing out the idea of someone actually trying to diagram out John McCain’s stated positions and actions on the issues that matter to our country right now.
I’m a rank amateur at this, but by gum I’ll do my bit to find a way to meet people through whatever medium grabs them: music, video, text, whatever. The stakes of this election are too important not to try. If we all give it a go, something will stick.
Again, apologies to Elvis Costello for mangling Human Hands out of recognizable shape.

I figure every election needs an anthem, and from what I’ve heard of the candidates’ own choices, well, we all should try our bit. Here’s my flawed contribution. Apologies to Elvis Costello: I mangled your tune, man, but it was for a good cause.
Here’s the audio, and if you don’t want to listen to my tortured warble here’s the text:
I’ve been watching the TV and John McCain is on
He’s getting itchy mad and now he’s singing “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran”
no talk to Ahmedinejad who’s not the leader like we did for 20 years
except hang on well that we didn’t do
A country next door he wanted to invade and stay a while
For five or for a hundred he can’t decide but it’ll be in style
Greeted with flowers or an IED they hate us no it’s safe
with a hundred guards or so
=====================
Whenever he starts to open his mouth then I have to figure out
What the heck that he’s talking about
You know I had to draw me a diagram
All I ever want is for McCain to kinda make some sense
=====================
He says he stands for freedom and he says he stands for liberty
Apparently that’s just for men the women get no freedom no autonomy
Add a few more Thomases, Alitos
Scalias and the Robertses will take it all away
When McCain got into power he swore a solemn oath
To protect preserve defend uphold this nation’s Bill of Rights
Then he voted against free speech and against a fair trial
Theocracy is something he’s been pushing for a while
=====================
Whenever he starts to open his mouth then I have to figure out
What the heck that he’s talking about
You know I had to draw me a diagram
All I ever want is for McCain to start to make some sense
=====================
You might remember with George Bush the way it all was gonna be
A little bit more honor and a lot more integrity.
Well…
… you know the rest
While John McCain’s top staffers are writing up his bills
They’re also paid by corporate boards, they don’t deny they’re corporate shills
There’s only a dozen or two dozen or three dozen or four dozen
Running his campaign
He started his career by taking money on the side
Now he’s running away from George Bush but he can’t hide
from his 95 percent voting record for Bush
Could he hug George Bush any closer than that?
Do you want four more, do you want four more
Do you want four more, do you want four more
Do you want four more, do you want four more
Do you really want four more years of this?
=====================
Whenever he starts to open his mouth then I have to figure out
What the heck that he’s talking about
You know I had to draw me a diagram
All I ever want is for McCain to finally make some sense
