What's On the Agenda?
-- December 11, 2003
Every morning before my son rises, I gather track of off-the-beaten-path statistics about the 2004 presidential contenders and put them together in a report called Irregular Tracking. One of the sites I visit to gather information is Meetup.com, which enables people sharing a common interest to find each other in their local communities and meet in person every month to pursue that interest. Each of the presidential contenders has an associated "meetup," and as part of Meetup.com's technology members can vote to establish an agenda for each upcoming meeting.
As I visited each candidate's separate meetup page to collect data this morning, I found myself reading and comparing the different agendas for each campaign. These differences are possibly illuminating and at least interesting, so I'm happy to share them with you. Without further ado, here are the contenders' December 2003 Meetup agendas in alphabetical order. See what you can see.
- Bush
- Should we pick a resturant / bar for our next meetup?
- Let's all e-mail our friends to increase our Bush in 2004 Meetup membership?
- Ways to get the vote out for Bush 2004
- Clark
- Cross state lines to do promotional work in states with important primaries.
- Bold idea for Clark Campaign - "Energy Independence in 8 Years"
- Create contacts with local colleges/universities with PoliSci programs for the purpose of obtaining interns to work on the campaign
- Dean
- Start or participate in voter registration drives, particularly those targeting young voters.
- Start to brainstorm ideas for Generation Dean to explode in our community. Concerts, Skate Parks, ect?
- Submit Dean Meetup events to newspapers community calender section to increase participation
- Edwards
To Be Determined
- Gephardt

- Kerry
- What 3 reasons would you give a moderate Bush supporter to switch to Kerry? How does Kerry appeal to core conservative values?
- Beyond strength vs GW, which issues might move early Dean supporters toward us?
- How do you feel about the questioning of our patriotism if we disagree with the current administration? How do we fight it?
- Kucinich
- Step up fundraising efforts in SF. Brainstorm potential venues, themes, dates, etc. including many more house parties.
- For what reason does one Vote? (I'm asking this in response to those who say "why vote for Kucinich, he doesnt stand a chance")
- Where appropriate, de-centralize the Meetup to more venues in the neighborhoods. This supplements local organizing.
- Lieberman
Joe Lieberman can be a formidable candidate if only he had more money to get his message out? How do we do this?
- Moseley Braun
To Be Determined
- Sharpton
