The uncontrolled release of the natural gas into the water, and then into the air, is significant because natural gas emissions contribute to global warming. Natural gas consists primarily of methane, which is an even more powerful greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
If the fossil fuels industry can’t guarantee safety in the calm and temperate waters of inland Alabama, why should we believe that they’ll be able to conduct safe and clean oil drilling operations in the Arctic Ocean, or in the depths of the Gulf of Mexico?
