Arizona State Representative Bob Thorpe has a problem with Barack Obama negotiating a weapons deal with Iran. Bob Thorpe’s hero is Ronald Reagan. Insert history.
Florida Governor Rick Scott won’t stand up for the right to bear weapons that aren’t guns. Why? Probably, it has something to do with the fact that there is no group of lobbyists and political action committees that give large amounts of money to political candidates who defend the right to carry sticks and glass bottles.
But then they faded.
The people in the late 18th century didn’t have sufficient imagination to write a constitutional amendment that would make exceptions for weapons larger than cannons. They didn’t anticipate sarin nerve gas, or nuclear missiles. They couldn’t imagine airplanes being flown, as weapons, into buildings half a mile tall.
