Rick Santorum Suddenly Surging With Cash From Shadowy Sources

I’d like to know whether any of the millions of dollars of federal government money that has gone to the Iowa Family Policy Center is being used by Chuck Hurley operate the Leaders For Families Super PAC on behalf of Rick Santorum. The Super PAC has been created in such a way, however, that makes it impossible to track that money down. [...]

91% of Stand for Marriage Maine’s October Cash Came from 3 Religious Groups

A recently-released campaign finance report reveals that between October 1 and October 20, the anti-gay group “Stand for Marriage Maine” raised $1,410,689.80 in cash contributions. $1.4 million is a lot of money, especially for small-state Maine politics.

91% of that money came from just three sources:

The New Jersey based fundamentalist Christian organization called the [...]

Maine Anti-Gay Group Propped Up By Out-of-State Religious Dollars

Last week, I wrote that 86.4% of the $1,193,323.83 raised by Stand for Marriage Maine in the 3rd Quarter of 2009 came from just four sources:

1. The Knights of Columbus 2. The National Organization for Marriage 3. Focus on the Family 4. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland

Stand for Marriage Maine is the [...]

Fundraising: Maine No on 1 Blows Anti-Gay Forces Out of the Water

November 3, Mainers go to the polls and vote on whether to reject Maine’s new same-sex marriage law. Fundraising totals for the third quarter of 2009 are out for the NO on 1 and YES on 1 forces. The main Maine NO on 1 organization, NO on 1 / Protect Maine Equality, has raised more [...]

Don’t Mess With Marriage? Don’t Mess With Equality! Bumper Stickers to Counter the Meme.

Thanks to Pam’s House Blend, I’ve been made aware of a new campaign by the “National Organization for Marriage,” an anti-equality front group combining the money of the Roman Catholic Church with the marketing machinery of Focus on the Family. The NOM is deploying its deep pockets to try and distribute two million free bumper [...]

But You Expose Your Child to This? A Gay Marriage Argument That Makes No Sense

One of the main arguments for the passage of Proposition 8 to ban gay marriage in California last year was that we have to “protect children.” How horrible it would be, the line went, if America’s children asked their mommies and daddies whether men and women could marry and mommy and daddy responded “Yes”? What [...]

State of Maine OKs Same-Sex Marriage: Catholic Church and Focus on the Family Ready Their Money Machines

The wheels of representative democracy are turning in Maine. Last week, the Maine Senate passed LD 1020, a bill affirming the right of same-sex couples to get married in the state of Maine and reiterating the right of churches to refuse to perform same-sex marriages. Yesterday, the Maine Senate passed LD 1020 and today Governor [...]

Why Doesn’t Palin Just Leave The Election In God’s Hands?

If Sarah Palin really believes what she says she believes, she can just go home to Wasilla and pray, and let God take care of everything. If God is really on her side, what does she have to be afraid of? [...]
