As this list shows, corruption is somewhat bipartisan, in case of the influence of United Technologies Corporation. In the current election cycle, however, the United Technologies PAC is giving two thirds of its money to Republican candidates, and just one third of its money to Democratic candidates.
Yesterday, Ed Markey was elected to take the seat that John Kerry vacated in the U.S. Senate. Markey had been the ranking Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, and so that position, as well as Markey’s seat in the House, is up for grabs.
Netroots Nation was this weekend, and many attendees there grasped the historical moment and engaged in just the sort of talking back to Democratic politicians that I had hoped for.
