Eat your heart out, John Hagee. […]
It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection. These are the times when maps fade, old landmarks crumble and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Prominent religious fundamentalists in America…

The Hawaii state House followed the state Senate yesterday in voting to legalize same-sex unions that have the exact same privileges and benefits of marriage.
From John Hagee to Pat Robertson to Stephen Bennett to John Piper to Graham Dow to Yehuda Levin, religious fundamentalists assert that God uses the weather as an instrument of […]
As the first same-sex marriages in Washington, DC are performed today, God unleashes His Mighty Judgment. At least that’s what multiple fundamentalist Christian preachers have told us should happen. But His Judgment seems awfully mild for March: 62 degrees and sunshine.
Well, you go, YHWH! Your Divine Plan must make sense, because you are, after […]
Since the the November 2009 vote in Maine to abolish marriage equality by passing Ballot Question 1, I’ve been looking at the vote in greater detail, tallying up and mapping results for the towns of Maine from county to county. In most counties there has been variation to show, with some towns voting to ban […]
It’s time again to play Where’s God’s Judgment!
Despite the declarations of multiple fundamentalist Christian leaders that God uses hurricanes and other extreme forms of weather to cast His Mighty Judgment down on those countries, states and municipalities that pass gay-friendly legislation, the people of Chile and Massachusetts and Portugal and Iowa and Spain and […]
Are you and your same-sex partner planning a trip to Washington County, the most Northeastern of the coastal counties in the state of Maine? Looking for the first sunrise in Eastport or a quasi-Canadian experience in Calais? Consider what kind of reaction you’ll get: as the map below shows, with two exceptions each and every […]
As in a number of other places, gay marriage was legalized yesterday in Mexico City under enjoyably clement weather (sunny with a high of 62).
Reality just isn’t matching up to the claims of one prominent fundamentalist Christian after another prominent fundamentalist Christian after another prominent fundamentalist Christian after another prominent fundamentalist Christian after another […]
Fundamentalist after fundamentalist after fundamentalist after fundamentalist after fundamentalist after fundamentalist Christian has trotted up to the microphone in years past to declare that the weather is the vehicle of God’s judgment regarding gay people and the societies that welcome or bash them.
Yesterday, the Washington DC City Council cast the second and final vote […]
Gay and lesbian couples planning a visit to Maine in the near future have a different set of considerations than the rest of us. In addition to researching events, outdoors activities, scenic vistas and affordability, same-sex couples are well-advised to consider whether the way they will be treated for holding hands while on holiday. Tallies […]
If Waldo County, Maine were a fictional creation of a novelist, it would be an exemplar in the use of irony.
The map below displays voting results for Ballot Question 1 on November 3, 2009, color coded by town. Ballot Question 1, which passed by a narrow margin in Maine, was a measure that overturned […]
