The National Reconnaissance Office — “a joint Department of Defense – Intelligence Community organization responsible for developing, launching, and operating America’s intelligence satellites” — has launched NROL 39, its latest payload of classified spy satellites. For every launch, it develops a unique badge and motto.
Why is the Obama Administration cutting off access for scientists to data gathered by military satellites that watch for nuclear weapons tests?
President Barack Obama has been pushing for increased funding for the satellite spying operations the National Applications Office deploys against Americans. And Democratic cosponsorships for H.R. 2703 and H.R. 2704? There’s only one – Representative Norman Dicks has cosponsored H.R. 2703, and hasn’t even bothered to cosponsor H.R. 2704.
Representative Harman is a particularly interesting person to sponsor legislation against warrantless satellite spying, given that she has herself been the target of, and yet a defender of, warrantless surveillance by the Executive’s intelligence agencies.
