A recently-released campaign finance report reveals that between October 1 and October 20, the anti-gay group “Stand for Marriage Maine” raised $1,410,689.80 in cash contributions. $1.4 million is a lot of money, especially for small-state Maine politics.
91% of that money came from just three sources:
The New Jersey based fundamentalist Christian organization called the [...]
Lee Atwater is chuckling in his grave.
When Stand for Marriage Maine wanted to put out its first TV ads against same-sex marriage in Maine, it put out an audition notice looking for a nice, well-spoken white woman willing to pretend to be a teacher and read a script. I’m not kidding. Here is the [...]
The Yes on 1 road signs put out by the anti-gay “Stand for Marriage Maine” are reasonably well-designed as far as traditional campaign signs go, although the color scheme leads to some practical problems: yellow and white don’t contrast, and unless you’re in just the right light, as in the photograph you see below, the [...]
Last week, I wrote that 86.4% of the $1,193,323.83 raised by Stand for Marriage Maine in the 3rd Quarter of 2009 came from just four sources:
1. The Knights of Columbus 2. The National Organization for Marriage 3. Focus on the Family 4. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland
Stand for Marriage Maine is the [...]
When representatives of various churches and other religious organizations in Maine gathered in early October to declare their support for same-sex marriage and their opposition to Ballot Question 1, the head of the anti-gay YES on 1 forces mocked them. Marc Mutty, Chair of Stand for Marriage Maine, issued a press release characterizing the breadth [...]
When voters in Maine go to the polls on November 3 to vote on Ballot Question 1, they’ll be deciding whether to outlaw same-sex marriage (a YES vote) or to let same-sex marriage stand (a NO vote).
The YES on 1 campaign consists of a front group called “Stand for Marriage Maine” that is almost [...]
NO on 1/Protect Maine Equality is the organization leading the charge to vote NO on Ballot Question 1 in Maine this fall. Ballot Question 1 would overturn LD 1020, the law that made same-sex marriage legal in the state of Maine earlier this year. By my read of Maine campaign finance disclosure documents, the NO [...]
This morning, I was looking to create a map of campaign contributions in Maine using data taken from the Maine campaign finance website. From that website I’d found that Stand for Marriage Maine, the primary group organizing to outlaw same-sex marriage in the state, had received only 257 contributions from just 250 individuals who live [...]
Until June of this year, Marc Mutty’s job title was Director of Public Affairs for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland. Then his job title switched, and he became the Chair of Stand for Marriage Maine, a group trying to make same-sex marriage against the law in Maine. News reports consistently describe Marc Mutty as [...]
A little while ago, I wrote that a whopping 86% of the campaign cash contributed to Stand for Marriage Maine (the anti-gay organization fighting to repeal same-sex marriage in Maine) in the 3rd Quarter of 2009 came from just four religious organizations. Those organizations, and the dollar amounts they contributed in the 3rd Quarter, are
November 3, Mainers go to the polls and vote on whether to reject Maine’s new same-sex marriage law. Fundraising totals for the third quarter of 2009 are out for the NO on 1 and YES on 1 forces. The main Maine NO on 1 organization, NO on 1 / Protect Maine Equality, has raised more [...]
