Why should we believe Barack Obama anymore? Obama always promises to reform the authoritarian programs he embraces. Time after time, those promises are exposed as lies. […]
It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection. These are the times when maps fade, old landmarks crumble and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread. Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Why is there all the hype about weapons of mass destruction, and no Commission on the Prevention of Conventional Weapons Proliferation and Terrorism? The answer is depressingly simple. […]
In an interview aired tonight between journalist Brian Williams and Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Palin repeatedly refused to define as “terrorists” the people who bombed abortion clinic, firebombed clinics, shot doctors and killed nurses.
When you read this transcript of Palin’s remarks, pay special attention to the way that Sarah Palin relies on […]
In a rational world, Juval Aviv wouldn’t be trusted any more than a hot dog salesman who spits in his mustard.
You may remember that in the summer of 2007, the self-declared “intelligence expert” made the following prediction:
I predict, based primarily on information that is floating in Europe and the Middle East, that an […]
Deine Papieren, Bitte!
Did you forget your identification card when traveling by air earlier this year? Congratulations! You were added to the Transportation Security Administration’s terrorist watch list, and your name was shared as that of a potential terrorist with state and local law enforcement agencies. The security of das Heimatland demanded it…
… because […]
Where are they? Where are the big, nasty, evildoing terrorists that have been captured thanks to the passage of the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, the Protect America Act and then the FISA Amendments Act? Each of these bills restricting our freedoms was passed with the promise that in exchange for surrendered freedoms, your […]
Once you accept the truth of what Secretary Chertoff is saying, it becomes plain that terrorists are flooding across the borders into the United States every day. The new generations of terrorists look like non-terrorists, see. They have legitimate passports, and they’ve never committed any act of terrorism, or even been caught associating with terrorists. That’s how you know they’re terrorists. […]
This is why America needs habeas corpus.
A McClatchy Newspapers investigation reveals that “dozens and perhaps hundreds of men” have been wrongfully detained at the Guantanamo Bay indefinite detention facility without charge and without the habeas corpus right to challenge the basis for their detention. A review of the cases by McClatchy journalists revealed “fabricated […]
Those Republicans who thrill to the feeling of their fantasy that terrorists are hiding behind every garbage can across America can have their own Fantasy Election Day. They don’t need to turn out to vote on Tuesday, November 4th. They can go pretend to vote at pretend polling stations on Wednesday, November 5th. They can call it Wake Up Patriot Election Day, and sleep through the real Election Day. […]
People are indeed in danger, but mostly we’re not in danger because of terrorism. Far greater are the threats that come from the way that our lives have been redesigned in order to support a large population through technology. Many more lives would be saved, and much more suffering would be eliminated, if our federal government spent less time worrying about Homeland Security, and more time considering how to make our homes more secure from the dangers of day-to-day exposure to the dangerous artifacts of our technological society. […]
